Dosan's Four Principles:

My grandfather Ahn Chang Ho chose Dosan as his pen name when he first saw Hawaii in 1902. Do means Island. San means Mountain. "One final ingredient which entered the mold that produced Dosan, the nationalist leader, was a sense of personal destiny as a leader, a pioneer, someone destined to stand out, and possibly, stand alone. This sense was reflected in his choice of his pen name when he observed the lonely splendor of the Hawaiian peaks towering from the vastness of the surrounding ocean." 도산의 네 가지 주요 원칙:
항상 진실을 찾으라 (무실,務實)
'무실'은 진실을 찾고 말하는 것을 의미합니다. 도산은 진실성이 모든 좋은 관계의 기초라고 믿었으며, 진실을 직시하고 인정함으로써 진정으로 성장하고 발전할 수 있다고 생각했습니다.
진실에 따라 행동하라 (역행,力行)
'역행'은 진실을 실천하는 것을 의미합니다. 도산은 진실을 알기만으로 충분하지 않으며, 긍정적인 변화를 가져오기 위해 행동해야 한다고 믿었습니다.
충성과 신뢰를 가져라 (충의,忠義)
 '충의'는 자신의 원칙과 가치에 충실함을 의미합니다. 도산은 진정한 충의는 다른 사람을 무작정 따르기 보다는 자신의 원칙에 충실함에서 오는 것이라고 믿었습니다.
진실을 지키기 위한 용기를 가져라 (용감,勇敢)
'용감'은 위험을 감수하고 도전을 극복하는 용기를 의미합니다. 도산은 진정한 용기는 옳은 일을 위해 마주하는 어려움에도 굴하지 않는 것에서 나온다고 믿었습니다.
Dosan's Legacy
My grandfather was a key leader in the Korean Independence Movement. Due to his patriotic leadership and determination, the nation of Korea was saved from the Japanese Occupation. This photo is from 1919 when Dosan went to Shanghai to lead and organize the Korean Provisional Government in exile. He went to prison 6 times and sacrificed his family to save Korea.
Dosan was the president of the Korean Provisional Government in Shanghai in 1919. The blueprint above is his State of Mind based on his experience as the central figure and architect of the Korean Independence Movement.
Dosan Park
Dosan Park is in Seoul, Korea. I went there in 1973 for my first visit. It was quite an experience seeing Korea for the first time.
Dosan was the Master Mind of the Independence Movement. He organized nation saving activities from 1898 to 1919 when he presented this plan in Shanghai. He was born on Todong Island in the Taedong River. His family had a small farm and raised sheep. He was a swimmer and a sailor growing up on this island. Dosan loved the ocean. The image of Dosan is from his 1936 prison picture. He was arrested for saving Korea's freedom. He was imprisoned from 1932-1935. Dosan went back to Jail in 1936-1937!! He died in 1938 after years of being jailed and tortured by the Japanese. Dosan would have surfed if he had the opportunity. He loved the Ocean. He loved swimming and sailing. Forever to be remembered for his love of Korea and its people ❤️
